” The First Will Be Last and The Last Will Be First” I’ve heard this phrase countless of times throughout my life yet I never really understood the meaning behind it.I always thought it was weird and backwards. I knew enough to realize it implied the people on the top of the hierarchy on earth will be at the bottom in Heaven. Which is true but that’s just merely scratching the surface of what this really means.

Mathew 5:6 better illustrates the meaning behind this which states:” Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness   for they shall be filled.”  This verse is straightforward and blunt but you still may be asking how does it apply to ” The First Will Be Last and The Last Will Be First”

Let’s get into it. As humans, we gravitate to people places and things that satisfy our flesh.  When we give into our sinful desires it provides us with temporary happiness but it leaves us empty wanting more. On the other hand, when you deny the things of the flesh it feels bad and uncomfortable BUT it’s freeing to your spirit because you’re putting God before your own selfish desires. “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you”.  Which will fulfill your spirit and all that temporary happiness and pleasure ETC… Will be added to you that you thought you passed on and will fill you and make you whole in such a way no one can take it away as long as you’re seeking God first those things will come naturally.

It Irks me when I hear Pastors over-romanticizing Christianity because it leaves new believers ill-prepared and unequipped. So they feel blindsided when they come up against adversity. The truth is Christianity is uncomfortable to your flesh sometimes scary and seemingly less fun. But when you seek refuge in Gods power and put his will befoe yours he will give you everything you need everything you think you lost and everything you never knew you wanted on earth. The best part is You will be LAST on earth (in many ways) but by doing this you will be FIRST in heaven.

The Conflict of Confidence

Confidence is key, The best thing you can wear is confidence. Those are phrases I’ve heard scattered throughout my childhood. The Idea of Confidence is good but when we talk about the source of confidence is when the water becomes murky. Where do I pull this confidence from? Who should I place it in? Anytime I propose the question what is the source of our confidence? They say something like believe in Yourself?  Confidence comes from Within?

As I get older I notice while that sounds good it’s not actually biblical. The bible teaches us the complete opposite. A great illustration of this is Psalms 23. This scripture is basically just bragging on the goodness and love of God which you receive after you place full confidence in him. From a believers perspective. It’s Like the Benefits of allowing God to guide and love you it shows that God will love you into submission and not force it on you. It also shows you how you can rest in confidence of Gods ability.

“23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”  Psalm 23

As you start to walk with God you will find comfort in his rod and staff ( which symbolizes his power) Youll start to see how miraculous he is and how powerless we are in comparison to him which will bring you peace and Joyknow that he will be with you when you need to access his stregth and power. This is when the sanctification process begins in my opinion. When you’re hit with the realization of I can’t conquer my problems alone. When you are humble enough to admit that you’re not capable of getting through life based on your own might, therefore, you hand your life over to Christ who will start to lead you down a righteous path.

God Isn’t A Genie

Don’t get me wrong. God loves to answer prayers. He loves to show off his miracle working ability and I think he loves having small talk with his kids. Its nothing wrong with asking God for things The bible encourages it. I have a question for you, though. When was the last time you asked God what was on his mind? Have you ever made yourself available to God?  Are your prayers self-centered or Christcentric? I think we pray for tangible things or certain situations to stroke our own ego instead of for the Glory of God.  .Once we obtain what we want we turn our backs on God and try to soak up all the credit. Yes, he wants you to have life more abundantly  But God isn’t a genie or Santa clause. If you’re a Christian just so you can ask for stuff you’ve missed the point.  You can’t measure real wealth through tangible things. You’re rich when you’re living out your God-given purpose. (not your momma given purpose its a difference sighs I know Christianity can be inconvenient).  Having nice stuff should just be a by-product of your work  Not the goal. The ultimate Goal should be to let your light shine to get the attention of nonbelievers so you can point them toward christ and he can make them disciples.
